West Ham United hijack Nottingham Forest verbal agreement for new signing

West Ham are looking to hijack Nottingham Forest’s efforts to secure the services of Corinthians goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, according to Bruno Andrade.

The CNN Portugal journalist reported on 7 June that Forest have a verbal agreement with the Brazilian, but the Hammers are now trying to convince him to sign for them.

Both sides are willing to pay £3.4million to Corinthians and the decision now rests with the 25-year-old.

Via Twitter, Andrade wrote: “Update on Carlos Miguel : Nottingham Forest has a verbal agreement with the goalkeeper, but West Ham entered the dispute strongly. The two English clubs agree to pay the 4 million euros of the termination fine at Corinthians. The decision is up to the player.”

Carlos Miguel would a decent addition for West Ham

The pursuit of Miguel seems to be a strategy orchestrated by the club’s technical director, Tim Steidten, who has been extremely hands-on with his transfer dealings.

He is known for his extensive scouting network and ability to identify talent and has been spending a significant amount of time in Brazil, suggesting that he is actively involved in the club’s transfer activities in the region.

The potential signing of Miguel could be a testament to Steidten’s work, as he aims to strengthen West Ham’s squad with promising players from South America.

If the Hammers successfully hijack the deal, it would demonstrate Steidten’s ability to secure valuable signings and outmanoeuvre rival clubs.

Miguel would arrive as the backup to Alphonse Areola and could pave the exit for Lukasz Fabianski this summer.

The Brazilian’s presence could also help the club plan for the future, as Fabianski is nearing the end of his career.

Miguel’s experience in the Brazilian league and potential to adapt to the Premier League could make him a valuable asset for the club, contributing to the team’s success in domestic and international competitions.
