West Ham United get Angel Gomes answer in Fabrizio Romano update – ‘100%’

West Ham United have been linked with Angel Gomes since Lee Carsley brought him into England’s senior squad during his spell as interim manager.

The attacking midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, with the Englishman currently plying his trade for Ligue 1 outfit Lille.

One of the main areas the Hammers have struggled in this season is the centre of the park, with players such as Guido Rodriguez often underperforming and already looking for a way out of the London Stadium.

While the rumours around the former Manchester United man’s future have died down recently, a new update from Fabrizio Romano may give Hammers fans a cause for excitement.

Gomes will 100% leave Lille at the end of the campaign

When a player as talented as Gomes comes onto the free agent market, it’s obvious that there won’t just be one or two clubs looking to make a move.

Other Premier League sides such as Tottenham and Aston Villa have also been linked with an interest ahead of the 2025/26 season.

However, a new report from Romano has seemingly outlined where the future of the 24-year-old is headed.

“Yes, [the] Premier League is a possibility for Angel Gomes, while also clubs in the Bundesliga asked for information to his new agents,” he said to GiveMeSport (5 March).

“He will 100 per cent leave Lille.”

Graham Potter could become an instant favourite at West Ham

While Graham Potter has managed to steer the hammers clear of the Premier League drop zone thanks to consecutive wins over Arsenal and Leicester, more could still come from the former Brighton boss.

West Ham are still only 15th in the Premier League, but the addition of Gomes could help turn their fortunes around massively next term.

When chosen for England, the 24-year-old evidently had a keen eye for a pass and his speed both on and off the ball were fairly impressive.

For Lille this season, things have been going a little slower than he’d have likely hoped, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still plenty of potential for him to fulfil.

If Potter manages to pull off a move for Gomes in the summer, it would certainly be a statement of intent from the East London club and will show that they mean business next term.

Of course, only time will tell what the future holds but for now, the stars seem to be aligning for the move to be sanctioned, which would be the perfect way for the Hammers to start their summer.
