West Ham United find quick Tomas Soucek solution as Ismail Yuksek eyed, January transfer mooted

West Ham had been doing well defensively this season before their most recent Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s men ran riot at Villa Park on Sunday (22 October) in a 4-1 victory, with Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd struggling at centre-back.

But Hammers boss David Moyes will be confident of that being a mere blip rather than a more permanent issue, with his regular central defensive duo having formed a strong partnership in claret and blue.

Fellow centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos was brought in during the summer transfer window to increase competition for places, with fellow summer arrival Edson Alvarez signed to operate slightly ahead in defensive midfield, more often than not from the start.

The latter is an area of the pitch that is also key when it comes to helping prevent goals, and the Mexican didn’t exactly cover himself in glory against Villa.

James Ward-Prowse was also brought in to help out in midfield and ease the pressure on the defence after Declan Rice left a huge gap following his move to Arsenal.

The Hammers could now be set to lose another defensive midfielder in the form of Tomas Soucek, with FC Inter News (15 October) reporting that the club have offered the player to Inter Milan.

It remains to be seen whether or not he will leave the London Stadium, but if he does, the East London outfit have seemingly found a quick solution to the problem in the form of Fenerbahce’s Ismail Yuksek.

According to Turkish publication Aksam (21 October), the Hammers are one of four clubs interested in the Turkish international, who has made 15 appearances for his club in all competitions this season.

The publication reported that Tottenham, Bayer Leverkusen and Napoli join West Ham in the race for his signature in the January transfer window.

In other West Ham news, one Hammers star is now among an “elite” Premier League duo after his record-breaking moment against Aston Villa.
