West Ham United explain decision as player exits London Stadium
West Ham United academy manager Kenny Brown has explained the decision to send Gideon Kodua on loan to Wycombe Wanderers.
The Hammers confirmed via their official website on 23 August that the 19-year-old has signed a two-year contract and has rejoined the Chairboys for the season.
Academy boss Brown has revealed that the attacking midfielder has been sent out on loan to get more first-team football under his belt and become a regular.
He said: “With half a season at Wycombe under his belt, the goal now is for him to establish himself and get more game time.
“Now, he’ll be gaining even more minutes in the Football League, which he’s more than capable of doing.
“We’re confident he’ll have a successful season. At West Ham, we want to ensure the right pathways for our best young players, and Gideon is certainly one of them.”
West Ham loan Gideon Kodua to Wycombe Wanderers
The Hammers academy graduate has come through the ranks which saw him captain the club to FA Youth Cup glory in 2023.
It is clear that, despite being a youngster, the attacker has leadership qualities which could stand him in good stead moving forward at the London Stadium.
This season he will be given the chance to impress in League One with Wycombe once again after spending the second half of last campaign there.
In ten appearances, he failed to get on the scoresheet and struggled at times but getting a full season under his belt could be exactly what he needs.
It is clear that the Chairboys rated the 19-year-old in his spell and have moved to bring him back in.
The Irons also appear to see a future for their academy star with them locking him down to a fresh two-year deal.
Supporters will be hopeful Kodua can perform well in the third tier and return to East London with some positive experiences.
