West Ham United: David Moyes transfer priority emerges amid ‘growing concerns’ around Kurt Zouma

There are growing concerns around the ability of West Ham captain Kurt Zouma to play the required number of games in a season, according to Sean Whetstone.

The 6foot2 editor tweeted on Thursday (4 January) that there are “long-term concerns” lingering around the French international’s knees after he’s played just 16 of a possible 29 matches this season.

He added that David Moyes is, therefore, likely to prioritise a move for more cover at centre-back in the January transfer window due to the 29-year-old’s ongoing issues.

Troubling

This is an extremely troubling development for West Ham because Zouma is a massive part of the squad after being handed the captaincy over the summer.

The defender put a good run of games together in the opening few months of the campaign, but he’s been absent for the past two matches.

He has struggled with injuries for a number of years and that is probably part of the reason why Moyes has been keen to ensure he has five senior centre-back in his squad.

With Nayef Aguerd looking like potentially moving on from the London Stadium this month, another centre-back will be high on the Scotsman’s wishlist.

But the club’s main priority should be on getting the Frenchman back fit and healthy because he will be vital for us in the second half of the season.
