West Ham United: David Moyes must reprimand Michail Antonio after senseless Liverpool transfer claim

David Moyes must reprimand West Ham forward Michail Antonio after his senseless transfer claim regarding Liverpool.

Speaking on the Footballers’s Football Podcast on Tuesday (24 October), the Jamaican international said teammate Jarrod Bowen would be the “perfect replacement” for Reds forward Mohammed Salah.

He added that the money the Merseysiders get from any potential sale of the Egyptian international would have to go to the Hammers if they want to sign the 26-year-old winger.

“He (Bowen) is a bagsman,” said Antonio. “Everything he is touching is turning to gold right now. But hey, it’s going to cost a lot of dough, man has just signed a seven-year deal.

“The money you get from Salah, you are going to have to give it to us. He’s quality, left-footed and plays on the right-hand side like Mo Salah, so he is the perfect replacement.

“But hey, it’s not going to be easy to get him out of here. It won’t be easy because that’s a seven-year contract man has just signed.”

While it is refreshing to hear footballers talk so openly as they do on the podcast, Antonio seriously has to rein it in with what he’s saying sometimes.

It was just a matter of weeks ago that the 33-year-old embarrassed the Irons when he predicted his side to finish above Liverpool this season before losing 3-1 at Anfield that same week.

You would have thought that defeat would have led to the Jamaican being a bit more careful with his words, but that clearly isn’t the case on the back of his latest comments.

West Ham

Bowen is an integral player for the Hammers after scoring a number of important goals since his arrival from Hull City in January 2020.

It has been no different for the England international at the start of this campaign, having registered six goals and two assists in his opening 10 games of the season.

After being linked with a move to Liverpool as a potential long-term replacement for Salah, the winger recently signed a new seven-year deal at the London Stadium, effectively committing the rest of his career to the club.

While Antonio was probably only joking around on the podcast, suggesting an Irons player – and one as important as Bowen – would be a perfect signing for the Reds is never going to go down well with the fans.

It’s about time Moyes had a worth with the forward about his comments and the impact they can have because they really aren’t doing us any favours.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a forward dubbed “incredible” by Neymar as his club want to sell him.
