West Ham United ‘crazy saga’ over as Todibo to jet in before lunchtime – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham United’s “crazy saga” is now over in their attempt to sign Jean-Clair Todibo with the defender set to fly into London by Friday lunchtime, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano shared the latest on his X account [9 August] as Todibo reportedly accepted the proposal to move to the Premier League overnight.

The Hammers have beaten Juventus, no less, to Todibo’s signature following Tim Steidten’s bid to Nice of over £34m guaranteed – and granted the French outfit’s wish of a considerable sell-on clause.

Todibo is set to become Steidten’s seventh signing of the transfer window, with Romano confirming earlier in the morning that the duo were flying in together at some stage on Friday [9 August].

West Ham snatch Todibo from under noses of Juventus

For West Ham to beat Juventus to the signing of a senior France international illustrates a real statement of intent.

Steidten has been meticulous around the clock in his approach to improve Julen Lopetegui’s squad, and after a few bumps in the road is now starting to gather together an exciting clutch of players.

Crysencio Summerville, Guido Rodriguez and Niclas Fullkrug this week became a triple breakthrough as they joined Max Kilman, Wes Foderingham and Luis Guilherme in East London.

Todibo will sign a long-term contract with Lopetegui’s men and fill an aching void in the defence, the 24-year-old replacing the Dubai-bound Kurt Zouma, who is undergoing a medical at Shabab Al-Ahli [Dharmesh Sheth, 8 August].

Expect this not to be the last of the transfer activity of a claret and blue persuasion as the Irons make their bid this season to return to Europe.
