West Ham United could swoop in for Todibo deal if Juventus situation plays out – Fabrizio Romano
West Ham would only make a new move to sign Jean-Clair Todibo if Juventus’ £33.9million deal for the Nice defender breaks down, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing via his Daily Briefing on Friday morning (2 August), Romano reported that Juve are still in negotiations to sign the 24-year-old centre-back, who is keen on the move to Turin.
Romano has addressed rumours that the Hammers could make a renewed bid for Todibo, saying that would only happen if Juventus fail to land the France international.
“Juventus remain in negotiations for Jean-Clair Todibo and he wants Juventus as a priority. Talks are ongoing, let’s see what happens with the Bianconeri,” said Romano.
“There have been rumours that West Ham could be back in the race, but they could only be an option if the deal with Juve collapses and that’s not the case now.
“Juve are still on it, price is around €40m (£33.9m).”
West Ham United should walk away from transfer
Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten need to be asking themselves if Todibo is really a player that they want to have at the London Stadium.
Let’s say a deal for him to join Juve breaks down and the Hammers make a move and have him in their squad for the start of the Premier League season.
He’s always going to be seen as a player who didn’t want to sign for the Irons.
On 25 July, Sky Italy reported how the former Barcelona defender rejected an offer to join West Ham because of the fact he wants to join Juventus instead.

It’s understandable because they’re a huge club who’ll be playing in the Champions League in the upcoming season. West Ham, however, aren’t in Europe and have gone through a bit of a transition this summer with David Moyes leaving.
Hammers fans would rather have players at the club who really want to be there and Todibo just isn’t going to ever be that if anything happens.
Right now, a deal doesn’t look likely but if Juventus do fail to get their man, he might be someone who Lopetegui and Steidten need to avoid.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have started transfer “poker” as talks are underway for another new arrival.
