West Ham United could hit jackpot as Nayef Aguerd summer transfer update emerges

West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd is attracting interest from multiple European clubs, which could see the Hammers scoop a hefty amount for the defender.

Aguerd is one of several players heavily linked away from London Stadium this summer as the club’s new chapter under Julen Lopetegui begins.

The Moroccan is reportedly seeking an exit from West Ham [The Times] as Atletico Madrid come calling, and a potential £30million bid has been mooted.

However, Rennes – where Aguerd spent two years before arriving in the English capital and played in the Champions League – are now rivalling the Spanish giants according to Alan Nixon, and the Hammers could prove to be the beneficiaries.

Nayef Aguerd could fetch West Ham a pretty penny

At 28 and with three years remaining on his West Ham contract, Aguerd is likely to be at his most valuable – so it’s little wonder the Hammers board are open to cashing in this summer.

The Hammers will be wanting a profit on the £30m they forked out for the centre-half in 2022, which will be an interesting proposition for Rennes as the club who initially sold him.

Aguerd himself is keen to go, having only made 21 Premier League appearances under David Moyes last season.

It’s likely the Morocco international would prefer a switch to Atletico with their Champions League pull and defensively organised identity under Diego Simeone, whereas Rennes are seeking reinforcements following a disappointing 10th-place finish in Ligue 1.

Nayef Aguerd has struggled while with West Ham United

West Ham’s defence is set to undergo a major reshuffle, with Kurt Zouma heavily linked with a summer exit and veteran Angelo Ogbonna on his way out – so it’s important the club get their incomings spot on, amidst the obstacles surrounding their move for Fabricio Bruno in the past few days.

Fingers crossed this growing interest in Aguerd ramps up the fee further so that the money can be reinvested on an upgrade in defence.
