Atletico Madrid are interested in signing West Ham centre-back Nayef Aguerd this summer, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist wrote on his official patreon page (28 May) that the LaLiga giants and former club Rennes are battling it out for the 28-year-old in the transfer window.

He added that a sale for the Moroccan defender could land the Hammers over £30million, valuable funds as new boss Julen Lopetegui looks to reshape his squad.

Nayef Aguerd to leave West Ham this summer?

The Hammers forked out £30million to bring Aguerd to the London Stadium back in June 2022 but he has not always been a first-team regular with the Irons.

He made 18 Premier League appearances in his first campaign and 21 last term but a figure of over £30million would represent good business, especially as Lopetegui could use the cash elsewhere.

The likes of Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna may also find their futures in doubt with defence seemingly an area that West Ham would particularly like to strengthen before the new campaign.

Fabricio Bruno
Fabricio Bruno is in line to become the first signing of the Julen Lopetegui era at West Ham.

Flamengo defender Fabricio Bruno looks like being the first arrival through the door under Lopetegui with Fabrizio Romano giving the move the "here we go" treatment on Tuesday (28 May).

And you feel like he will be the first of several players to bolster Lopetegui's ranks over the coming months and the likes of Aguerd appear dispensable to fund the moves.
