West Ham United close in on double transfer as Niklas Fullkrug jets into London

Borussia Dortmund striker Niklas Fullkrug is jetting into London to progress his move to West Ham United, according to Sean Whetstone.

The Hammers writer posted via the West Ham Football account on X [1 August] that Fullkrug was due to fly via a private jet on Thursday (1 August).

The hope is that the Germany international’s arrival in the English capital will help speed up talks and finally get a deal over the line.

West Ham are also on the verge of completing a deal for Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville in a double swoop for the club [Fabrizio Romano, 1 August].

West Ham United mean business this summer

West Ham have already made some shrewd signings, while retaining their key men from last season, and the club are not finished yet.

Some would argue that Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran is a better option than Fullkrug, but the price the Villans were holding out for was out of West Ham’s reach.

Instead, the Irons have gone back to the drawing board and found a different type of player – one who is a lot older but also a lot more proven.

Fullkrug caught the eye for Germany at Euro 2024 and was a regular for Borussia Dortmund in their run to the 2023-24 Champions League final.

Hailed as “exemplary” by German great Miroslav Klose in 2022, the 31-year-old looks like he could be the ideal man to lead the Hammers’ attack.

There have been suggestions that an initial £15million bid was knocked back by Dortmund [Ben Jacobs, 31 July], but that will not put Tim Steidten off.

With Fullkrug now due to arrive in London, it is surely just a matter of time before this latest transfer is concluded.

That, combined with the signing of Summerville, will give supporters a massive boost heading into the new campaign.
