West Ham United check in on Koni De Winter as new Juventus transfer update emerges
West Ham United have checked in on Juventus loanee Koni De Winter ahead of the summer transfer window at the London Stadium, according to Dean Jones.
The 21-year-old Belgian centre-back has enjoyed an impressive season on loan with Genoa in the Serie A this season and has attracted interest from the likes of Wolves, Leicester City and Leeds United with his bright performances.
David Moyes’ side have explored the possibility of a deal for De Winter, but Sports Lens journalist Jones has revealed that the defender is set to make his move to Genoa permanent due to a permanent clause in his loan switch.
As quoted by Give Me Sport (27 March) he said: “Any Wolves links to De Winter is interesting because I can understand why they would have needed to make contact by now.
“My information about this from checks with people in Italy is that he is expected to join Genoa permanently. As part of his move, there was a redemption obligation set at 23 appearances in Serie A, and he is currently at 22.
“Hence, I find it hard to imagine that there will be an opening for anything else to happen in that instance, but it’s an interesting rumour. I’m also told that Leicester, Leeds and West Ham have checked in on the situation.”
Will David Moyes and West Ham United strengthen in the summer transfer window?
It has been clear for some time that Moyes and the Hammers will have to move to strengthen their backline during the summer transfer window as there is still plenty of uncertainty around a number of their defensive options.
While Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd can be world beaters on their day, the Frenchman hasn’t been able to play week in and week out consistently without injury while Aguerd has been linked with a move away from the London Stadium.

Konstantinos Mavropanos has had an indifferent start to his West Ham career and even if he managed to add a consistent streak to his game, Moyes needs more options at centre-back and De Winter would provide exactly that.
Maybe a deal could be struck with Genoa to secure a permanent move for the Belgian ace after his permanent Juventus exit is completed, but it seems unlikely the Serie A club will be keen to lose the 21-year-old so quickly after signing him.
