West Ham United beat Tottenham in Max Kilman transfer race after Spurs approach
West Ham United look set to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Max Kilman from Wolves, according to The Sun.
The newspaper has reported via their website (5 July) that the Hammers are set to sign the defender on a six-year deal.
This deal is almost done despite Spurs and Manchester United approaching with enquiries while Newcastle United had a bid rejected earlier in the window.
West Ham had a bid of £30 million rejected and have now gone “above their original limit of £35m” to sign the Englishman.
West Ham beat Tottenham to sign Max Kilman
It has been made clear that Lopetegui wants to add the 27-year-old to his squad ahead of his first campaign in charge of the Hammers.
The Spaniard worked with Kilman in his short spell with Wolves and Kilman now looks set to be on the move to the London Stadium.
A need for defenders has been made clear with departures on the cards having already begun with Angelo Ogbonna departing.
Nayef Aguerd has been heavily linked with a move away while Kurt Zouma could be used in a swap deal to sign Jean-Claire Todibo.
Kilman is positive with the ball at his feet which will suit the style of play that Lopetegui is potentially looking to deploy.

The Englishman has plenty of top-level experience with Wolves which could prove useful to add to the back line next campaign.
It has been a good start to the transfer window for Tim Steidten with Luis Guilherme through the door already and Kilman set to come in.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made a significant transfer swoop as a bid has been submitted for a Euro 2024 star which is the highest one received by the club.
