West Ham United and Edson Alvarez agree five-year deal, may not play for Ajax again
West Ham have moved closer to signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez after agreeing terms on a five-year deal with the player, according to AD.
Writing on their official website (5 August), the Dutch newspaper report that the player has agreed a contract until 2028 at the London Stadium and now all that stands between a transfer is the clubs agreeing a transfer fee.
The clubs are due to restart talks over a deal this week, with the Dutch giants hopeful of earning £40m from the deal. According to the report, Alvarez may not play another game for Ajax as a deal edges closer.

“Edson Álvarez is one step closer to a transfer to West Ham United,” they wrote.
“The defensive midfielder of Ajax has reached an agreement with the Conference League winner on a five-year contract.
“Whether he will play another match for Ajax remains to be seen.”
Finally
This is a link that has been reported for a while and West Ham were said to be looking at him as the prime target to replace Declan Rice earlier in the summer.
It’s taken a while and the club thought they were going to miss out to Borussia Dortmund, before the Bundesliga club pulled out of the race and gave them a free run at the Mexico international.

That seems to have left West Ham take their time on a deal but with the new season just a week away it seems they’ve made their minds up and are now pushing forward with a deal.
Alvarez is an experienced player with fantastic defensive qualities and is capable of playing in both midfield and defence, so the added versatility will be a big help.
A fee hopefully won’t prove to be too difficult to agree between the clubs, but with the way this window has gone so far nobody knows what is around the corner,
