West Ham United: All that remains for Real Betis to sign Pablo Fornals detailed in Spanish transfer update

Real Betis have accelerated their efforts to sign Pablo Fornals from West Ham in the January transfer window, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The Spanish news outlet reported on its website on Friday (26 January) that conversations with the 27-year-old midfielder and his representatives are currently underway over a switch to the La Liga club.

It added that all that remains to get the deal over the line is for the Seville-based side to convince the Hammers to sanction a move for the Spanish international this month.

Let him go

It’s quite clear that Fornals definitely isn’t the same player he was for West Ham a couple of seasons ago when he was one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The arrival of Lucas Paqueta in 2022 meant his minutes in the side were immediately reduced, while further midfield additions have seen him slip down the pecking order at the London Stadium.

While the recent injury crisis has seen his opportunities improve, his performances haven’t been great and it’s unlikely he’ll keep his spot once other players return to action.

West Ham

That means a move away from East London is probably the best solution for everyone as he will no doubt want to play more regular football and a transfer back to Spain will be appealing.

It’s now down to the clubs to just find a reasonable agreement as he should still have a decent transfer value due to his age and his previous performances for the club.
