West Ham United agree personal terms with Jhon Duran after new transfer development

West Ham United have already submitted a bid worth £35million for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via his X account on Tuesday (9 July) that Julen Lopetegui’s side have already agreed personal terms with the striker, with negotiations now underway between the two clubs.

Lopetegui’s Hammers have submitted more than one bid for the 20-year-old this summer, with the last £35million offer including a 10 per cent sell-on clause which would have seen Villa pocket a portion of any future fee.

Will West Ham United sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran in the summer transfer window?

Lopetegui has been keen to put his own stamp on the squad left behind by David Moyes last summer and it has been clear for some time that a new centre-forward would have to be high on the Hammers’ agenda.

While Michail Antonio has been a consistent presence at the top end of the pitch for several years now, he does not have the clinical edge required to play week in and week out in the Premier League whilst consistently finding the net.

Jarrod Bowen has deputised well out of position but with speculation surrounding both his and Danny Ings’ future in East London this summer, a new striker has to be targeted before the campaign gets underway.

Duran would fit the Irons’ style of play in recent seasons given his big physical frame but also his ability to play with his back to goal. If a deal can be reached with Villa this summer, he would be the perfect replacement for Antonio.

The question will be just how much do the Villans want for his signature. While the 20-year-old was impressive last term, he is relatively unproven at the top level and £35million is already a lot to spend on a striker who scored just eight goals last year.
