West Ham transfers: Potts recall update emerges from Portsmouth – ExWHUEmployee
West Ham are considering recalling Freddie Potts from his loan spell at Portsmouth, according to ex-WHUEmployee.
The Hammers insider has claimed (21 January) that should the East London outfit fail to succeed in bringing in any midfield targets, then recalling the 21-year-old back is on the cards.
The midfielder has been a regular in the Pompey side this term, with one goal and three assists picked up along the way.
Should he be recalled, the youngster would then be part of Graham Potter’s senior squad for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign.
Freddie Potts could flourish under Graham Potter at West Ham
Both in his loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers last season and his period on the South Coast this term, Potts has impressed and has now shown his ability in the Championship.
However, being at a side that are sitting at the wrong end of the table cannot be doing too much good for the 21-year-old’s development, so bringing him back to East London could allow him to push on to the next stage of his career.
The West Ham boss is well known for his ability to transform young players into gems, and with limited funds available at the London Stadium during the winter transfer window, we may well see the Irons have to use their boss’ strengths to see them through.

The recall will rest on the possibility of bringing other midfielders through the door, with links to Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall during the window, which makes sense because to recall the player to then not play would be as damaging to his developments.
However, if Potts is on his way back to East London, it would not be a surprise to see Potter work wonders with a young Hammers talent.
