West Ham transfer news as asking price emerges for Luizao after late Monaco interest
West Ham United are keen to sell Luizao permanently and even set an asking price of £4.3million amid previous interest from Monaco, according to iG Esporte.
The Brazilian outlet reported on Wednesday (7 February) that the defender is expected to depart the London Stadium sooner rather than later, but so far the Hammers have been unwilling to negotiate over a potential loan deal.
Monaco held an interest in the centre-back, but were unwilling to match West Ham’s valuation, while several clubs in Brazil are thought to have enquired about the possibility of taking the 21-year-old on loan.
Luizao has a contract at the London Stadium until 2026 and should no club manage to meet the Irons’ £4.3million [€5million] asking price, he will remain a West Ham player at least until the summer.
End of the road for Luizao at West Ham
West Ham United took a gamble when they signed Luizao originally and it doesn’t appear as though the Hammers’ efforts have paid off as they already look set to cut ties with the Brazilian defender before he’s made a senior first-team appearance.
The Hammers had previously said that they would only be willing to let the 21-year-old leave on loan if he was to remain within European football, but such a move is now off of the cards at least until the summer transfer window.
David Moyes’ defensive ranks at the London Stadium have been bolstered in the last few weeks, with Nayef Aguerd returning from the African Cup of Nations, while Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos have been regular fixtures of the defence.
If Luizao was unable to make an appearance while Aguerd was away, it seems unlikely he’ll force his way into Moyes’ thinking now that the Morrocan international is back fit and available once again.
Whether a Brazilian outfit will foot the £4.3million bill remains to be seen, but it feels more likely that Luizao will remain a West Ham player until the summer.
