West Ham ‘to seal Walker-Peters transfer in days’ after shock new twist

West Ham fans will be hoping for a few more signings before the new Premier League season.

The Hammers were slow out of the blocks in this summer’s transfer window, but their activity looks set to heat up soon at the London Stadium.

El Hadji Malick Diouf has officially signed, while Graham Potter is actively pursuing a new goalkeeper, as well as more defenders.

A big-money move for Liverpool star Harvey Elliott has also been touted in midfield.

On top of all this, it seems as if Potter is about to reignite his interest in Kyle Walker-Peters after a shock twist in the race to sign him.

West Ham closing in on Kyle Walker-Peters

Ex-Southampton defender Walker-Peters is a free agent now that his contract at St Mary’s has expired.

He looked destined to sign for Besiktas after being invited to conduct a medical with the Turkish giants.

However, in a “shocking” twist, Besiktas have now withdrawn their offer, after Walker-Peters asked for an extension before travelling to Turkey.

It’s a bizarre set of circumstances which looks set to reopen the door for West Ham, with ExWHUEmployee reporting they’re set to make a move for the full-back imminently.

“West Ham have made a last-minute move for Kyle Walker-Peters,” he said via the West Ham Way.

“A free transfer move to Turkey has fallen through because of ours and another club’s move. It is hoped we could complete the move in the coming days.”

West Ham need to make signings in attack

The signing of Walker-Peters would be a useful addition to the West Ham squad.

He has racked up hundreds of appearances in the Premier League, and still managed to show his quality for Southampton despite their horrific showing last season.

However, Potter should surely be prioritising the recruitment of some exciting new attacking players.

West Ham’s centre-forwards weren’t up to the task last season, and now they’ve lost Mohammed Kudus, who was arguably their strongest flair player.

If they want to improve on last season, they’ll need to score a lot more goals, but Jarred Bowen currently looks like their only reliable source of firepower.

Diouf is a solid signing, and Walker Peters would be too. Elliott would be a real coup if West Ham can get him, but that looks easier said than done.

But Potter also needs to target an exciting attacker or two. Someone who will get the Hammers fans out of their seats when they watch their team play.

If Walker-Peters kickstarts another spree of signings, excitement is only going to rise for the Irons.
