West Ham to pursue deal for La Liga gem Tsygankov as fee details emerge

West Ham United fans will be hoping that their club make some serious moves in this summer’s transfer window, after their disappointing 2024-25 campaign.

Manager Graham Potter was drafted in to steady the ship at the London Stadium last January, and the team did begin to show signs of improvement at times.

Yet, it’s widely agreed among supporters that new recruitments are needed if the Hammers are to stand a realistic chance of fighting for the top places in the Premier League.

So, they’re likely to be happy about the latest developments regarding Girona winger Viktor Tsygankov.

West Ham eye Girona gem Tsygankov

The Hammers have been keeping tabs on Tsygankov since his days at Dynamo Kiev.

The Ukrainian signed for Girona in January 2023 and has grown to become a key player for a side that has competed in the Champions League.

However, a report from Spanish outlet AS (8 June) suggests that Girona need to sell and West Ham are among the clubs preparing a bid, having monitored him across the 2024-25 season.

Manchester United, Aston Villa, Fulham and Bournemouth have also been tracking the 27-year-old.

The report suggests that the Spanish club values their player at £18.5million. He also reportedly has a release clause of just over £25m on his Girona contract.

Tsygankov could provide the flair that the Hammers need

Potter has turned West Ham into a functional team who are difficult to beat and capable of beating anyone on their day.

However, the addition of more flair on their left wing could be a solid improvement to help them climb up the league.

An attack with Tsygankov on the left and Jarrod Bowen on the right would have enough pace to frighten any defence, although they could arguably still do with recruiting another striker, particularly as Danny Ings could be leaving the club.

This is Potter’s first summer transfer window since stepping into the West Ham hotseat. Hammers fans will hope that he shows the nous in the transfer market that made him such a hit as Brighton manager.

The proposed £18.5m fee for Tsygankov is arguably a steal, considering he’s a player who has performed consistently well in La Liga and the Champions League.
