West Ham to learn Manchester City decision on Cole Palmer transfer on Wednesday – Alan Nixon

West Ham are one of several Premier League clubs waiting to hear if they have been successful in their pursuit of Manchester City winger Cole Palmer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Writing on his patreon page on Tuesday (29 August), Nixon said Premier League champions City are still deciding whether Palmer or James McAtee will depart the club on loan before the window closes.

He added that Burnley and Brighton are also among his suitors but some of Palmer’s interested parties would like to buy him, a scenario City are not willing to entertain at this point.

Only one of the two City youngsters will be allowed to leave on loan, though, with the likes of Sheffield United, Leicester City, and Ajax named as interested in McAtee.

Would be a useful addition

The links with Palmer were particularly prominent when City were heavily linked with a move for Lucas Paqueta, a move that collapsed amid an FA probe into alleged betting breaches by the Brazilian – something he strongly denies (Sky Sports, 23 August).

It seems as though the Hammers are still interested in Palmer, though, and in a campaign when they have the Europa League to throw on top of their domestic commitments, the signing of Palmer – even on loan – would be a particularly useful one.

Brighton, of course, can also offer European football, while Burnley boss Vincent Kompany will hope he can win the day with his close ties to those at the Etihad Stadium.

But with West Ham having made a flying start to the season, that has seen them take seven points from three games to sit top of the table, they may just be able to win the day.

That is, of course, providing City do not opt to keep Palmer and send McAtee out on loan instead.

In other West Ham news, Burnley are also battling the Hammers for Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen.
