West Ham target Kostic to start for Frankfurt in their season opener
West Ham-linked Filip Kostic is reportedly in line to start for Eintracht Frankfurt in their season opener, according to Florian Plettenburg.
The Serbian international has been linked to a move to the London Stadium, with negotiations reaching an impasse as of late. Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Alfredo Pedulla reported on 3 August that he’s asked for West Ham for more time to decide on his next club.
However, Sky Sports Germany’s Plettenberg has now revealed that the midfielder will start for the Bundesliga against champions Bayern Munich.
Plettenburg said: “Update on Filip Kostic.
“We‘ve been told that he was with the team this morning and he should start against Bayern tonight.”
Should West Ham give up on Kostic?
With negotiations with the Serbian international becoming increasingly difficult, could it be time for the Hammers to throw in the towel?
The 29-year-old was instrumental in helping his team win the Europa League last season and therefore qualify for the Champions League.
It seems pretty evident that after all the hard work needed to qualify for European’s top competition, the former Hamburg and Stuttgart midfielder will be unlikely to voluntarily drop out of the competition.
There have been rumours circulating that Kostic will be unlikely to join a club that is not in this season’s Champions League, placing doubt on a move to West Ham. [Sky Sports]
With the likes of Juventus interested in the left-side midfielder, who is rumoured to be the Serbian’s preferred destination, the Hammers could be wasting their time on him. [Football Italia]
It looks unlikely that the club do manage to persuade him to sign for them, and might be a smart decision to move on and focus on other targets.
