West Ham table third bid for Rangers attacker Kai Kennedy
West Ham seem unlikely to sign young attacker Kai Kennedy this summer after Rangers rejected a third bid from the Premier League club, according to The 4th Official.
However, it is understood that the Scotland youth international is set to join Dunfermline on loan instead.
The 4th Official does add that despite Kennedy being set to join Scottish Championship club Dunfermline on loan, West Ham remain keen on the winger.
One for next summer?
West Ham may feel as though they know what it will take to sign Kennedy from Rangers but if he has a good season on loan at Dunfermline then the Scottish champions may be less inclined to sell him.
Kennedy spent last season on loan in the Scottish Championship with both Raith Rovers and Inverness.
He’s only made one senior appearance in his career for the Gers but Steven Gerrard is clearly a fan of the teenager.
In 2019, Gerrard was quoted by the Daily Record as waxing lyrical about the “fabulous” talent.
Gerrard also praised Kennedy’s application in training, which led to him getting involved in the Rangers first-team at the age of 17.
“He earned the right to be the 19th man,” said Gerrard. “His training performances and his cameo against Leicester – I was thinking about putting him in the 18. All of our lads at the academy should take note of what he’s done this week. I think he’s been outstanding.
“People look at Kai like he’s this wee player who doesn’t belong with men but he’s trained like a man all week.”
We’ll have to wait and see about what West Ham, Rangers and Kennedy do next summer – or in January if his loan spell at Dunfermline is only a half-season one.
In other West Ham news, Jim White has shared what he’s been told about the potential takeover at the club.
