West Ham slammed for Mads Hermansen transfer after Chelsea loss, ‘Andre Onana better’
Mads Hermansen had a night to forget as Chelsea beat West Ham United 5-1 in the Premier League on Friday.
The London Stadium hosted Enzo Maresca’s team on 22 August, with the Hammers capitulating after taking an early lead.
Lucas Paqueta’s goal against Chelsea gave the home fans hope that he is slowly returning to his best, but the Brazilian midfielder’s cryptic social media post after the game will surely leave the Irons’ fans worried.
The former Leicester City goalkeeper, along with the East London outfit’s entire backline, was underwhelming against the Blues, and questions have been raised over his transfer.

Mads Hermansen poor for West Ham vs Chelsea
Steve Nicol has slammed the Hammers for signing Hermansen from Leicester after his performance against Chelsea.
The ex-Liverpool defender seems baffled by the prospect of the 25-year-old’s arrival at the London Stadium despite his poor “terrible” record with the Foxes.
ESPN journalist Mark Ogden recently suggested that Manchester City had the worst number one and two in Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir in the Premier League, but Nicol rates the Cameroon international over the Danish goalkeeper.
Speaking on ESPN FC, the former defender said: “They go and sign Hermansen from Leicester. There’s a reason Leicester have been so poor. They haven’t had a goalkeeper since [Kasper] Schmeichel. And Hermansen was terrible at Leicester, yet they signed him. He plays today, and he comes out flapping for one of the goals.”
When asked whether he would have Onana or Hermansen in goal, Nicol responded: “Onana easily.”

Graham Potter on thin ice at the London Stadium
If Potter thought the loss against Sunderland was the most damaging for his future, the English manager now seems on the brink of being sacked after losing to Chelsea.
The manner of defeat against the Blues saw a few fans enter the pitch mid-way through the game, with the home support cheering them on.
It looks like the former Brighton boss has lost the crowd, and once that happens, any manager will undoubtedly be on thin ice.
- Hermansen was signed for around £20million.
- The Danish shot-stopper has now conceded eight goals in his first two games for the Hammers.
- In the 2024/25 season, the goalkeeper kept just one Premier League clean sheet.
Jarrod Bowen, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Freddie Potts were the only West Ham players who looked bothered during the embarrassing display.
The Hammers’ business in the ongoing transfer window has arguably been pitiful, making four signings, which include two free agents in Callum Wilson and Kyle Walker-Peters.
Now, the Hammers either have to back Potter before the end of August by investing a significant sum in the team, or offer the English manager his resignation letter, as he seems out of his depth.
