West Ham United ‘eye Barcelona gem’, he’s set to leave Camp Nou

West Ham United and Tottenham have shown an interest in signing Barcelona forward Ansu Fati, according to Diario Sport.

The Spanish news outlet reported via its website on 16 January that Fati is of interest to West Ham, who need attacking reinforcements given the long-term injury sustained by Niclas Fullkrug.

Fati, typically operating out wide, has the ability to play centrally and the news outlet claims that he already has “one foot and a half” out of the door at Barcelona.

Jorge Mendez, the agent of the 22-year-old, previously claimed that “[Fati] will be a Ballon d’Or winner one day” [BarcaBlaugranes].

Ansu Fati would be an excellent pickup for West Ham United

While the Spaniard didn’t show too much when on loan at Brighton, his ability is evident and Graham Potter could be the perfect man to get that back into the spotlight.

West Ham have struggled for goals this season, with Fullkrug, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio out injured, Danny Ings failing to perform and Crysencio Summerville unable to have much of an influence.

Fati could rectify that, and with years of development still ahead of him, it could be an excellent pick-up for the Hammers if they can negotiate a fair deal.

Attacking reinforcements are an absolute necessity for the Irons this winter. If they can achieve that, they have every chance of some form of league success this term.

As it stands, Potter’s side are 12th, but just nine points outside of the top six, which taking into account the performances under Julen Lopetegui is quite remarkable.

Fati could provide the Hammers with just enough of a boost to turn the fortunes of their season around.
