West Ham senior sources suggest Potter’s next new signing is ‘foregone conclusion’

West Ham’s transfer window has been a hugely frustrating one so far.

Graham Potter had been hopeful of overhauling the squad at the London Stadium and effectively starting afresh, but that simply hasn’t looked like materialising so far.

Kyle Walker-Peters recently became just the second new addition of West Ham’s summer, with the former Southampton man combining with the arrival of El Hadji Malick Diouf to strengthen both full-back positions.

The Hammers’ squad is not in a good place following a disappointing campaign last time out, and the former Chelsea boss will surely be concerned with his options as the new season rapidly approaches.

Senior sources suggest Wilson signing is a “foregone conclusion”

West Ham have been chasing the signing of Callum Wilson on a free transfer as a much-needed addition to their options at the top of the pitch.

The 33-year-old is a free agent having been released by Newcastle earlier in the summer, but his unfortunate injury record is a major concern.

Wilson made just 18 appearances in the Premier League last term, and his influence had slowly been dwindling in the North East over the last few seasons.

The Hammers made rapid progress in their bid to sign the former England international, but their deal has seemingly stalled somewhat in recent days.

Senior sources at the East London outfit had been suggesting that his signing was a “foregone conclusion,” according to the Daily Mail (30 July), but official confirmation of the move is still being awaited.

Potter desperately needs to add to his attacking options, but Wilson will provide familiar concerns of a striker who is aging and has injury issues.

West Ham sleep-walking towards relegation battle

West Ham are struggling to provide Potter with the players he needs to turn their fortunes around at present.

They have recently lost out to Sunderland in the race to sign Granit Xhaka, and that should serve as an alarming wake-up call as to what could be facing them if they don’t find a way to strengthen their side in the final month of the window.

Both Sunderland and Leeds have already flexed their muscles in the transfer market, and that has created growing speculation that the relegation places may not be the foregone conclusion that people have come to expect in recent seasons.

If David Sullivan continues to leave Potter floundering in terms of his squad, then the Hammers’ chief should not be at all surprised to see his team fall into a genuine relegation battle.

They simply must get quality reinforcements in over the next few weeks, or their campaign could feel ill-fated from the very beginning.
