West Ham seal ‘great signing’ in major transfer update

West Ham are set for a busy summer ahead as they’re looking to make transfers to strengthen the first team.

Graham Potter took over from Julen Lopetegui but failed to drastically improve the results and performances.

He will be hoping that the owners back him in the upcoming window, as the Hammers can aim to secure a top-half finish.

Daniel Cummings branded a “great signing” by Frank McAvennie

The Hammers are set to secure the services of Daniel Cummings from Celtic on 1 July, when his deal at the SPFL champions runs out.

According to Fabrizio Romano (29 May) the Hammers will sign the 19-year-old, paying a compensation fee to Celtic, with his medical already being completed.

West Ham scouted the striker for a while and it turns out that they were happy with what they saw from him.

His signing has also been welcomed by Frank McAvennie, who is surprised that Celtic did not keep him.

He claims that if Cummings gives 100 per cent to the team, he will be loved by the fans.

The former Hammers striker wrote on X: “He’s a great signing for West Ham. In my opinion, Celtic should have kept him. Give 100 percent and fans will love you.”

West Ham secured a hot prospect by acquiring Cummings

This deal secures a prolific young striker with immense potential.

Cummings scored 30 goals in 33 games for Celtic’s B team in the 2024/25 Lowland League and six in the UEFA Youth League, showcasing his clinical finishing and versatility.

His 11-minute Champions League debut against Aston Villa highlights his readiness for senior football.

Under Potter and sporting director Mark Noble, who promised first-team involvement, Cummings offers West Ham a long-term solution to their striker crisis, with Niclas Fullkrug injury-prone and Michail Antonio also recovering from a horrific crash.

His pace, work rate, and goal-scoring instinct make him a fit for Potter’s high-pressing system.

While still raw, Cummings’ youth and record suggest he could become a star, mirroring Declan Rice’s rise, if nurtured effectively.
