West Ham schedule afternoon medical on deadline day as increased optimism for deal emerges

West Ham are looking to get some business completed before the end of deadline day, and Axel Disasi could become their latest signing.

The Irons have already been very busy in this winter transfer window, with deals for Taty Castellanos, Pablo, and Adama Traore already agreed earlier in the month.

Additionally, the London club have been able to shift some of their fringe players out, with the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Guido Rodriguez leaving the club.

Lucas Paqueta has been one of the more high-profile transfers this window across the Premier League, returning to Brazil and joining Flamengo.

However, Igor Julio’s return to Brighton, cutting his loan short, has left Nuno Espirito Santo in need of another central defender, and all signs point to Disasi being that man.

West Ham optimistic on Axel Disasi move going through

Disasi to West Ham has taken plenty of twists and turns over the last few weeks.

The Frenchman had plenty of teams in for him, with numerous Serie A clubs vying for his signature, and at times it looked like he was Italy-bound.

However, reports suggested that Disasi preferred to stay in London, and that has now looked to have helped Nuno’s case.

According to journalist Jacob Steinberg, there is now a sense of “optimism” that Disasi will become a Hammers player by the end of the window.

The Chelsea man, who has yet to kick a ball this season, has a medical scheduled this afternoon as his switch to E20 continues to move closer.

Disasi may need to time to get up to speed at West Ham

West Ham do need a centre-back through the door, but Disasi could require some patience before Hammers fans see him at his best.

The 27-year-old was banished to Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad’ and will certainly not be up to the fitness needed for the intensity of the Premier League.

He last featured in a professional match for Aston Villa as a substitute in a 2-1 loss to Manchester City in April 2025.

However, with the arrival of Liam Rosenior at Chelsea, that waiting period may not be as long as it could have been.

The defender has been reintegrated into the Chelsea set-up, and has been training with the first-team over the last few weeks.

Let’s hope he can hit the ground running, and can make an impact as quickly as possible.
