West Ham ready replacement transfer before deadline as Nayef Aguerd sale lined up
Nayef Aguerd is closing in on his West Ham exit after a disappointing three years in East London.
Aguerd conceded 11 goals in his opening three games of the season, and it quickly became clear that it wasn’t going to work out for the Moroccan.
Graham Potter’s switch to a back four against Nottingham Forest worked a treat as they kept their first clean sheet of the season and were 3-0 winners.
Transfer deadline day is still set to be a busy one for the Hammers, and Aguerd’s imminent exit will open doors to potential transfers elsewhere.

West Ham ‘will need’ a replacement for Nayef Aguerd
West Ham could still target a central midfielder on deadline day, despite the signings of Soungoutou Magassa and Mateus Fernandes.
Potter also claimed earlier in the transfer window that he didn’t need any more central defenders, but Aguerd’s imminent £19.9million move to Marseille will change that.
According to journalist Jacob Steinberg on X, Aguerd is expected to complete the move to Marseille today, and West Ham will need a replacement for the centre-back.
The 29-year-old is set to sign a long-term deal until 2030 with the French giants.
Potter is now left with Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo at the back, with Aaron Wan Bissaka able to fill in at centre back if needed.
Supporters will be more than pleased with the fee they are receiving for the Moroccan, which could go a long way towards signing a new defender.
Who could replace Nayef Aguerd?
Conversations have already started over who could replace Aguerd.
Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell has been linked with a move this summer, and should the Hammers sign the 23-year-old, it would be a huge coup.
- Cresswell played every minute of the U21 Euros this summer
- He made his Premier League debut as a 19-year-old against West Ham in September 2021
- He had a loan stint with Millwall in the 2022/23 campaign
Liverpool were linked with a move for Cresswell earlier in the summer, but if the Irons swoop for him on deadline day, he could push them up the table.
The England under-21 international makes sense, given that he could also earn West Ham a big fee in the future.
