West Ham react to multi-million clause to seal Kevin Lomonaco transfer

West Ham are set to be active in the transfer window this summer, with a new defender a must for Graham Potter.

The Hammers’ defensive record was poor in the 2024/25 campaign. The London club conceded 62 Premier League goals, the third-most outside of the bottom three.

Max Kilman has largely disappointed since his move from Wolves, and on top of this, Kurt Zouma has now left the Irons, with his contract set to expire.

Therefore, Potter is searching for a new centre-back this summer, with Kevin Lomonaco seen as a potential target.

West Ham happy to pay release clause for Lomonaco

Lomonaco has long been linked with a move to West Ham.

The centre-back, who plays for Argentine side Independiente on loan from Red Bull Bragantino, has impressed.

The 23-year-old is seen as a bright, upcoming talent in South America after his recent performances.

As a result, Lomonaco has recently been called up to the Argentina national team and could make his debut in the World Cup qualifiers in June.

Now, according to Minuto Uno (10 June), West Ham are preparing to make a move for the centre-back.

The 23-year-old currently has a £14.8 million release clause, which the Hammers are willing to pay.

Real Betis are also in the race for his signature, as the defender looks likely to move to Europe this summer.

However, for the moment, Lomonaco is concentrating on the World Cup qualifiers and will decide his future once the international break concludes.

Lomonaco signing is a no-brainer for Potter

For just under £15 million, West Ham are unlikely to find a better player for the price.

Lomonaco is likely to become an international over the coming days, which will only add to the youngster’s experience.

For £14.8 million, activating the defender’s release clause is a no-brainer for Potter as the risk is minimal compared to the potential reward.

Hopefully, West Ham will now act quickly to get the signing over the line before Betis make a move for the youngster and bring Lomonaco to the London Stadium.
