West Ham race to sign defender Jamie Carragher has likened to John Terry

West Ham are continuing their efforts to land a centre-back before the window ends.

West Ham are in the race to sign Igor Julio from Brighton before the 7pm deadline on 1 September at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are also showing an interest in Charlie Cresswell, with David Sullivan making a loan offer to Toulouse for the Englishman.

With that being said, Graham Potter is yet to welcome a new defensive option, which is certainly needed as Nayef Aguerd looks set to join Marseille from West Ham.

Now, there is another iron in the fire as the E20 club has also shown interest in another defender who Jamie Carragher believes is similar to John Terry.

West Ham showcase interest in Axel Disasi

At this late stage of the window, there is always likely to be a certain element of panic when business isn’t done as the hierarchy would have hoped.

This looks to be the case at West Ham as a late move for Disasi at Chelsea has been mooted with barely hours remaining before the deadline.

Fabrice Hawkins reported on 1 September that the Hammers want Disasi but have yet to agree a deal with Enzo Maresca’s for the Frenchman.

This has since been echoed by Jacob Steinberg, who has suggested that there were initial concerns over the finances of a loan deal for the 27-year-old.

That hasn’t discouraged Potter and Co. from making a deal happen, as the Irons are looking to find a solution to complete a deal with Chelsea.

Axel Disasi has been compared to John Terry

Speaking on Sky Sports in February 2024, Carragher likened Disasi’s performance for Chelsea against against Man City as John Terry-esque.

The former Aston Villa loanee is available after departing Villa Park at the end of a mixed loan spell where he operated as a centre-half and a right back.

It is that sort of versatility that could make the Frenchman of use to Potter, with the right-sided slot in a back three potentially suitable for the ex-Monaco man.

With so little time remaining in the window, it is unclear as to whether a deal can be reached, it will all seemingly depend on a transfer compromise with the Blues.
