West Ham now in advanced talks to sign Soungoutou Magassa as multi-million package revealed

West Ham could be on the verge of signing Soungoutou Magassa after their transfer chase has developed rapidly in the last few hours.

The Hammers have found life difficult in the transfer market, and have welcomed just four new faces into the ranks so far this summer.

Graham Potter has made it clear that West Ham need another midfielder before the 1 September transfer deadline, and he may now be about to get the addition that he so desperately desires.

The East Londoners succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at Sunderland on the opening day of the Premier League season, and it was a performance that showed that they still need plenty of work in the market.

West Ham agree £17.3m package for Soungoutou Magassa

West Ham have turned their attention towards Soungoutou Magassa after struggling to agree a deal with Southampton for Mateus Fernandes.

The E20 outfit were seemingly put off by the Saints’ lofty asking price, and instead opted to pursue Magassa, who they placed a bid for on Friday.

Their pursuit of the Monaco midfielder has moved incredibly quickly, and the Irons are now understood to be in advanced talks over the move, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri via X.

West Ham and Monaco have settled on a package that is worth a figure in the region of £17.3million, and all that is left to be discussed is the bonuses that will be involved as part of the player’s deal.

Potter and Co. have had their struggles so far this summer, but they now appear to have a potentially crucial addition within their grasp.

Soungoutou Magassa will be a good investment for the Irons

Potter needs more investment from West Ham’s board if he is to have a genuine chance of turning their fortunes around, and the move towards Magassa is certainly a promising start.

The 21-year-old has a big future ahead of him, and already has ample experience in Ligue 1, having made 21 appearances last term.

He also has Champions League experience to his name, and played a key role for France in this summer’s U21 Euros.

The Irons’ desperately lack youth and energy in the middle of the park, and Magassa should be able to address both of those concerns in equal measure.

He primarily operates in a holding midfield role, but can also push higher in the midfield or drop deeper and play as a centre back.

That versatility should be invaluable for Potter, and he will undoubtedly be keen to see the deal get over the line.
