West Ham monitoring teenage Northern Irish pair Callum Marshall and Leon Boyd

West Ham are keeping an eye on two of Northern Ireland’s hottest prospects, according to ExWHUemployee.

While David Moyes is no doubt busy preparing his list of first team targets for the January transfer window, it looks as if the Hammers academy could be ready to recruit as well.

Callum Marshall (17) and Leon Boyd (15) – both forwards – are the two names being linked with a move to the club’s youth set up.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, ExWHUemployee said: “We’re looking at two players from Linfield, who are one of the better Northern Irish teams.

“One’s called Callum Marshall, he’s a Northern Irish player. He’s 17, turning 18 in a couple of weeks’ time. He’s a forward. So he is someone we’re looking for from Linfield.

“And another player from Linfield is called Leon Boyd, who’s a versatile forward. So those two, Callum Marshall and Leon Boyd – worth keeping an eye out for. I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one of them signs, possibly two.”

Hidden gems

We would be lying if we said we had heard of Marshall or Boyd, but both teenagers seem very highly-rated and are said to have lots of potential.

Marshall, the older of the two, has made first team appearances, albeit not at the greatest standard. He scored his first senior goal for Linfield in an 11-0 win over PSNI in the League Cup at the start of this month.

Linfield Under-20 manager Davy Dorrian said about Marshall [via BelfastLive]: “Really exciting, loads of goals in him, lively.”

Dorrian added that the 17-year-old has been on trial at West Ham recently, saying “I’ll be amazed if we still have him next year”.

Meanwhile, BelfastLive reported in September that Boyd, “who can play in a number of positions across the frontline, is pacy, tricky and boasts an eye for goal”, was catching the eye of the Hammers and other Premier League clubs.

He made his Northern Ireland Under-17 debut in the summer despite not turning 16 until December.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are reportedly desperate to offload one of their attacking stars in January.
