West Ham make approach to sign Eddie Nketiah as New Year’s Eve transfer twist emerges

Eddie Nketiah has been linked with West Ham

Relegation is a strong possibility, almost a likelihood, for West Ham, and their ability to avoid that will largely be determined by the players they can bring in next month.

Signing a striker remains a priority for the Hammers, amid links to Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen, who was one of the best strikers in the Premier League last season.

However, the Irons have not put all of their eggs in one basket, with a new update emerging on a pursuit of Nketiah, though it comes with a twist.

Nketiah move may already be in doubt.

Nketiah has struggled for gametime this season, having started just twice for Crystal Palace with just 416 minutes played.

Despite that, he has still managed two goals in the Premier League.

Now, Alan Nixon has reported via his Patreon that West Ham have already made an approach to sign him in January.

That move is already in doubt now with the former Arsenal star having picked up a hamstring injury in Palace’s encounter with the Gunners, with the full extent of the damage yet to be determined.

The 26-year-old scored seven times in the previous campaign at Selhurst Park, but the latest injury blow serves as a doubt over a potential January exit.

West Ham also have other striker targets

While the Nketiah news will come as a blow to West Ham chiefs, Nixon has also claimed that he is just one of several targets being assessed ahead of the transfer window opening on 1 January.

West Ham have already been linked with Rafiu Durosinmi, who is said to be keen on a move to the London Stadium.

With that said, Nuno Espirito Santo has made it clear that he wants to sign players with experience of playing in English football, and Nketiah would have been perfect for that.

He’s made over 200 appearances in the Premier League alone, but with that deal potentially now looking unlikely, it seems as though the Irons will push forward with intent in their chase to sign Larsen.

One way or another, the Hammers have to bring in a striker as early as possible, or else they will find themselves slipping further down the table, and even more adrift from safety.
