West Ham line up big loan bid for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham
West Ham remain undeterred in their attempts to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham and will make a loan offer in the summer, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Despite a £40million price on his head the report claims the Irons will try and bring the 23-year-old in on a loan deal by offering a fee that is out of reach of their Premier League rivals.
The likes of Aston Villa, Leicester City and Newcastle United are also credited with an interest in Abraham but the Blues demands are likely to prove too excessive for them.
The England international is “very likely” to push for a move in the summer, as per The Athletic report, after refusing to discuss a new Chelsea contract.
He still has two years left on his Blues deal and that could represent an issue for West Ham’s loan move, as their London rivals would want Abraham to sign a contract extension to protect his value.
Permanent clause or nothing
Abraham would be the perfect striker to sign this summer, but we shouldn’t be backed into a corner over a deal for him.
It appears the club have baulked at his £40million valuation, so they’re eyeing the cheaper loan option.
That’s fine, as long as there is the option to make that move permanent at the end of the season.
If we’re going to shell out on an expensive loan fee and hefty wages to develop Abraham, we should have the chance to sign him next year.
Why should we be a place for the big clubs to send their outcasts and drive up their value, before shipping them off elsewhere?
We need to take a longer-term view here, and ensure we are not bullied into a deal that will leave us in the same situation next summer, desperate to sign another striker.
