West Ham learn Charlie Cresswell asking price as initial bid rejected

Nuno Espirito Santo is keen for West Ham to land a centre-back in the January transfer window.

David Sullivan has already splashed the cash by bringing the likes of Taty Castellanos and Pablo to the London Stadium this month.

On Friday, West Ham announced the signing of Keiber Lamadrid in another deal which took the Hammers’ spending to over £50milion.

Nuno still has his eye on a new defender for West Ham, with many supporters eager to see a new centre-half walk through the doors.

West Ham have kept tabs on Charlie Cresswell for a while, and the Hammers now know what they need to do to sign the former Leeds United man.

Toulouse want £26m for Charlie Cresswell

West Ham have made Toulouse aware of their interest in Cresswell in the past, and even came close to signing the Englishman on the deadline of the summer window.

The deal fell, through, and as a result, Nuno has been left to use the likes of Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman, who have both had their critics this campaign.

According to The Athletic, Wolfsburg have had an offer of around £20million for Cresswell rejected by Toulouse.

The Hammers’ interest has been highlighted, and they are said to be keen on a January move, but will now have to pay Toulouse’s minimum asking price of £26m.

Cresswell is clearly someone who the Irons value, but his transfer could depend on some exits first.

Two West Ham exits will help the pursuit of Cresswell

Lucas Paqueta is close to rejoining Flamengo in a deal that would see Sullivan rake in over £30m.

The Brazilian has his heart set on a return to Brazil. Still, the transfer is now hanging in the balance due to other logistical factors, with the Hammers reportedly wanting to keep Paqueta on loan for the rest of the campaign.

Edson Alvarez has also been linked with a permanent exit from West Ham, as Ajax are interested in brining their former Mexican star back to Amsterdam.

He is currently out on loan with Fenerbahce in Turkey, but Ajax’s technical director flew to Istanbul this week to try persuade Alvarez on a move back to the club that West Ham bought him from.

Both potential departures could see the Hammers bank almost £60m in transfers, and potentially aid their chase for Cresswell, as competitors close in.
