West Ham investigate new move to sign Axel Disasi from Chelsea
West Ham are once again looking into the possibility of bringing in unwanted Chelsea defender Axel Disasi.
Then-Irons boss Graham Potter tried to bring Disasi to West Ham on loan on deadline day in the summer after spending time together at Stamford Bridge, but failed.
Disasi didn’t make the West Ham move due to interest from former side Monaco, he subsequently explained, but having found himself in the infamous Chelsea “bomb squad” while Enzo Maresca was in charge the Frenchman hasn’t played once for the first team this season.
West Ham are in dire straits after losing 3-0 to bottom side Wolves on Saturday, and have already signed striker Pablo from Gil Vicente while agreeing to buy Taty Castellanos from Lazio, but still need help in defence.
West Ham enquire over Axel Disasi move
Although Italian Maresca has now departed Chelsea, and despite snubbing West Ham, Disasi had since been putting himself in the shop window after ahead of the January transfer window, and with the struggling Irons looking to recruit a new centre-back they are back in for the 27-year-old.
According to an update from The Times West Ham have made enquiries around signing Disasi, who spent half a season on loan at Aston Villa last term, at the second attempt after his rejection in the summer.
It isn’t specified whether they are once more attempting a loan move or not but the club do have one remaining domestic loan slot remaining, alongside Igor Julio who is with the Hammers from Brighton.
It is apparently “unclear” whether West Ham might consider cancelling Julio’s deal.

Disasi bargain could be available
Given he has been entirely frozen out of the first-team picture at Chelsea there is no doubt that Disasi is available, but whether he will have altered his stance on a move across London since the summer is hard to determine.
The ever-diminishing returns at the London Stadium don’t exactly make the club attractive, but the possibility of regular first-team football might make all the difference.
Chelsea are likely to prefer a permanent sale, unless the new manager, which seems likely to be Liam Rosenior, has an eye on reintegrating him so there could be a relative bargain there for West Ham to take advantage of.
Whether he is the answer to the myriad woes under Nuno Espirito Santo, who there is no guarantee will be around much longer if results don’t improve, is another matter.
But the Irons had some success with signing another French centre-back from Chelsea in Kurt Zouma, while Emerson was a decent option at left-back for a time from the same club, so there is obvious precedent.
