West Ham investigate Moise Kean deal amid heated arguments at Fiorentina

West Ham are reportedly looking into a possible move to sign Moise Kean in the January transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants to sign a striker and a defender in the New Year, with Niclas Fullkrug set to leave West Ham and subject to a loan offer from AC Milan.

Callum Wilson has scored four league goals since signing as a free agent in the summer and the Irons want competition for him at the position.

Long-term starting forward Michail Antonio is now training with Leicester after leaving at the expiry of his Hammers contract and recovering from a serious broken leg sustained in a car accident last season.

West Ham were linked to Kean prior to the summer transfer window, and have been interested in him for multiple seasons – Kean was also in West Ham’s sights before he left Juventus.

Fiorentina see Moise Kean as unsellable

Kean, 25, scored 25 goals in all competitions for Fiorentina last season but the Serie A side are having a nightmare campaign this term and are currently rooted to the bottom of the table with just six points.

According to an update from Sport Quotadiano in Italy, discontent is brewing in the dressing room and there were said to be “heated arguments” after the 3-1 defeat to Sassuolo at the beginning of December.

In that context the Fiorentina hierarchy are evaluating the entire squad for who they want to keep, delivering a stern message that nobody will be allowed to leave against the club’s wishes.

Moise Kean

Three could go in January but, despite only netting three times so far this season, Kean is said to be in the category of players who are “unsellable” despite the fact that West Ham are reportedly exploring a move.

Who else have West Ham been linked to in attack?

If the stance at Fiorentina is accurate then it appears a Kean deal is a dead end already, and perhaps rightly so.

Talented player though he undoubtedly is he struggled to make an impact in the Premier League as a youngster at Everton and only has two seasons with double-figure league goals in his career, so pinning hopes on him during a relegation battle would be a major risk either way.

That said, any hopes of West Ham bringing Ivan Toney back to England from the Saudi Pro League seem remote given the tax implications for the former Brentford star.

And interest in Norwich’s Josh Sargent, although not advanced, carries the obvious risk of the American being unable to make the step up from the Championship, when Nuno surely needs a reliable option.
