West Ham in talks with Leeds to seal ‘expensive’ Summerville package – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham are in contact with Leeds United and Crysencio Summerville as they get to work on a potentially “expensive” deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking to GiveMeSport (26 July), Romano reported that he’s unsure of whether the Hammers will be able to pull off a move for the 22-year-old Dutch winger, but there is still interest and talks have been held.

Summerville won the Championship Player of the Season award for 2023/24 and Julen Lopetegui, seemingly, wants him on his side going into the new Premier League campaign.

“The interest is still there in Summerville. It’s an expensive package, so I’m not sure West Ham will be able to make it happen, but the interest is genuine,” Romano told GiveMeSport.

“They had contacts on the player’s side and contacts on the club side after speaking to Leeds last week. He is one of the players they have on their shortlist.”

Will West Ham sign Summerville from Leeds United?

Summerville is a player who’s been linked with a lot of clubs this summer.

It’s no shock that there were eyebrows raised when he missed Leeds’ 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Schalke on Saturday. However, it turns out that the winger was at the game and missed out due to a slight hamstring issue and not because of the speculation surrounding his future in West Yorkshire [LeedsLive].

West Ham have a very good attack as it is.

Signing a striker is one of Julen Lopetegui’s main priorities at West Ham this summer

While there’s an obvious need to get in a striker, Julen Lopetegui has Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta and new signing Luis Guilherme.

Summerville plays mainly on the left wing for Leeds but he’s also capable on the right and through the middle, meaning he could be a very nice versatile option for Lopetegui.

But in the attacking midfield and wide areas, the left-wing is one that probably needs the most attention and Summerville would make a good addition there.

It seems to all be about finances right now though.
