West Ham in pole position to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard
West Ham are in “pole position” to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, according to Italian news outlet AS Roma Live.
The website, which has over 50,000 Facebook followers, claim Roma are interested in the Frenchman but a Premier League move is more likely at the moment, with the London Stadium mooted as a destination.
The Irons have reportedly made contact with Edouard’s entourage and his club, with Celtic now believed to be seeking around €20million [£17.3million] to let him go, which represents a big drop in his previous £30million valuation [The Mirror].
Edouard has impressed in Scotland with 20 goals in all competitions this term.
His form led teammate Ryan Christie to call him “phenomenal” [The Scottish Sun] and helped to spark interest from Arsenal and Leicester [The Telegraph].
Sign him up
Edouard would be a brilliant addition in the summer as he is the natural goalscorer the squad needs urgently.
Michail Antonio is brilliant in his own way but he is not exactly a poacher – his seven league goals this season is evidence for that.
In recent weeks we have relied on Jesse Lingard’s rich vein of form for goals, and while Jarrod Bowen has chipped in on occasion we would really benefit from a striker like Edouard.
He has scored 81 goals in 164 games for Celtic, and has emulated his predecessor Moussa Dembele, who now plies his trade at Atletico Madrid.
It is possible Edouard’s career path will take him on a similar trajectory, and by snapping him up for £17million we could land a real bargain.
David Moyes will undoubtedly demand that a striker is signed and by wrapping up Edouard early, who could be disillusioned at Celtic due to their plight, we can put an end to the endless striker speculation.
