West Ham in Georgiy Sudakov chase as £50m transfer news emerges

West Ham United are among the clubs interested in signing Georgiy Sudakov from Shakhtar Donetsk, according to TBR Football.

The outlet reported via their website on 4 December that Tottenham, as well as Liverpool, have sent scouts to watch the attacker in the UEFA Champions League this season, while the Irons and other Premier League clubs are also in the mix.

Shakhtar sporting director Darijo Srna has slapped a £50million price tag on the Ukraine international and is anticipating a bidding war.

Meanwhile, Sudakov, who grew up admiring Andres Iniesta and Luka Modric, has already opened the door for a move to England.

Speaking to Marca [27 November], he said: “In the future, I would like to try myself in a big league and I think La Liga and the Premier League are better suited to my style.”

Perhaps now is not the right time to talk about squad reinforcements, with Julen Lopetegui’s future at the London Stadium hanging by a thread.

The Hammers are considering pulling the plug on the Spanish tactician after their 3-1 loss to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday [3 December], according to David Ornstein.

However, it is worth noting that the East London club’s interest in Sudakov is not new, having been linked with a move for him towards the backend of the 2023-24 season [HITC].

Tim Steidten, though, will have to work hard to get a deal across the line, with several clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City also keeping tabs on him.

Sudakov has grabbed eight goals and three assists from 20 appearances across all competitions for Shakhtar this season, with two of those contributions coming in a 2-1 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on 6 November.

In other West Ham news, the Irons were hard done by the officials in their defeat at Leicester, according to former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett.
