West Ham hold preliminary talks over Jonathan Bamba and Andy Delort

West Ham have held preliminary talks over the potential signings of Ligue 1 stars Andy Delort and Jonathan Bamba, according to ExWHUemployee.

Delivering the update via the West Ham Way on Patreon [23/08/21], the Irons insider claims the French-born forwards are two of four Ligue 1 attackers that the club has made contact over.

He wrote: “Mohamed Bayo, Bamba (someone who I reported Moyes had an interest in, in 2018), Gaetan Laborde and Delort (all whose interest I have covered before), we have had preliminary talks with.

“Although the latter two played yesterday showing neither deal is close.”

Scatter-gun approach?

It’s something alluded to by ExWHUemployee, but it seems as if West Ham are refusing to place their eggs in one basket and are deliberating over which forward to pursue this summer.

The aforementioned names are different in profiles, though.

Bamba is more of a winger while the other three play in more central attacking positions.

On the one hand, it’s comforting to hear that we are actually pursuing an attacker.

We desperately need to add to our forward options with Michail Antonio the only senior striker at the club.

However, the fact that we haven’t got an obvious candidate to come in is rather worrying and shows our amateur approach to the transfer market.

Regardless, all four players would bring goals and that’s what we need to boost our chances of another tilt for the European places in the Premier League this season.
