West Ham eye Moussa Dembele with Lyon ready to sell French striker – report

Lyon are ready to sell striker Moussa Dembele and West Ham have been alerted to the Frenchman’s availability, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reports that the 24-year-old has grown frustrated at Lyon after being named on the bench for their last four Ligue 1 fixtures.

Dembele has made nine league appearances this season and failed to score in any of them but that hasn’t stopped Lyon from slapping a £30million price-tag on the head of the ex-Celtic striker.

David Moyes is reportedly a big fan of the former France Under-21 international, who could be keen on a second spell in England football after a stint at Fulham before he went to Celtic.

Michail Antonio has had his injury issues at the London Stadium this season and Moyes hasn’t been overly keen on choosing Sebastien Haller to replace the Hammers talisman.

Dembele hasn’t been in the best of form this season but that doesn’t mean he’s not a proven goalscorer.

Last term, Dembele scored 24 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions with two of those goals coming against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

He also netted against Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, Marseille, Nice and Lille in domestic football so he knows how to get himself on the scoresheet in big games.

In all competitions last season, stats by WyScout show that Dembele’s xG was 0.45 goals per 90 minutes and 50.7 per cent of his shots were on target.

This term, Dembele’s xG is 0.52 per 90 minutes in all competitions but his shot accuracy is 31.3 per cent.

The Frenchman’s scoring far fewer goals than he should be for Lyon so you can understand why they might want to sell him.

It will cost West Ham a lot of money but we think that the ex-Celtic man would be worth it if he’s able to rediscover the form he showed in 2019/20.

In other West Ham news, Haller was slammed for his display against Fulham.
