West Ham eye Cajetan Lenz signing as agent speaks out amid formal enquiries
West Ham have entered the race to sign Cajetan Lenz from Bochum in January.
Nuno Espirito Santo has had a mixed start to life at the London Stadium, with West Ham drawing 2-2 with Bournemouth in their last outing.
The Portuguese head coach will be hoping for a chance to improve his side in the upcoming window, with David Sullivan potentially able to make a budget available.
West Ham have already been linked to Ivan Toney in recent weeks, but it appears that there are plenty of irons in the fire in East London.
The Hammers have now emerged as an interested party in Lenz, as talks look set to kick off away from E20, ahead of the winter market.

West Ham monitoring Cajestan Lenz at Bochum
West Ham have shown interest in Axel Disasi, with defensive reinforcement potentially wanted in claret and blue for the rest of the season.
Defenders may be seen as a target, but it also appears that new options in midfield are being assessed to add competition to Nuno’s squad.
Soungoutou Magassa has struggled for regular minutes since coming in, and he could soon be dealt a further blow to his Irons career.
This comes after Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on 25 November that West Ham are among the Premier League sides monitoring Lenz.
The 19-year-old is also of interest to almost every Bundesliga club, outside of Bayern Munich, after a positive campaign with Bochum in 2.Bundesliga.
Formal enquiries have already begun for the defensive midfielder, with his agent speaking out to confirm interest in his client.
He said: “I can confirm that many clubs, both national and international, have made contact. However, Cajetan is fully focused on his boyhood club, VfL Bochum.“
Who is West Ham target Cajetan Lenz?
The Hammers are certainly in need of some youthful exuberance in their midfield based on how they started the season.
Having Guido Rodriguez, Tomas Soucek and Andy Irving starting in the Premier League is never going to be overly effective, so bringing in new options could prove to be wise.
A young option with plenty of room to grow, like Lenz, may be an ideal option if the Irons can force a deal over the line in January.
The German is famed in his homeland for his ability on the ball with his dribbling, concentration and long ball accuracy being his particular strengths.
Cajestan Lenz’s strengths:
Strengths
- Dribbling
- Concentration
- Likes to play long balls
- Likes to tackle
The Bochum talent also loves to get involved with a tackle, although his discipline is something that could be worked on in claret and blue.
A tough-tackling midfielder with an eye to make things happen on the ball could be exactly what West Ham needs right now.
