West Ham express interest in PSV winger Johan Bakayoko as Napoli in talks

West Ham and another unnamed Premier League side have expressed an interest in signing PSV winger Johan Bakayoko, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The RMC Sport journalist shared via his Twitter account on 10 August that the Hammers recently made their interest known, although PSV remain in negotiations with Serie A winners Napoli over the transfer.

It was also reported that the deal “will move again”, suggesting West Ham have a chance of leapfrogging other clubs in the race for the player’s signature.

An exciting prospect

At just 20 years old, Bakayoko is a very exciting prospect for West Ham to target as they aim to improve in the wide areas. Their current options consist of Said Benrahma, Maxwel Cornet and Jarrod Bowen, but he represents a different style from the rest.

The winger is in the 99th percentile for progressive carries and progressive passes received, while he is in the 96th percentile for both successful take-ons and touches in the opposition penalty area, all when compared to other wingers in competitions outside of the top five leagues [FBref].

His pace, trickery and ability to beat a man will provide the Hammers with some dynamism and unpredictability in a squad that is largely built around hard work and effective presence.

West Ham

Adding a bit of flair to the team will not only give them a new dimension but make them more entertaining to watch.

However, with David Moyes’ insistence on hard work and all of his players contributing all over the pitch, he will still be pleased with Bakayoko, who ranks in the 91st percentile for tackles and the 86th for blocks.

This is definitely one to watch.

In other West Ham news, one player is “very keen” to leave the club with huge interest reported.
