West Ham embroiled in ‘horrific’ situation on deadline day, it’s never been seen before
Graham Potter will have his fingers crossed that West Ham can get a deal over the line for Igor Julio after being granted extra time by the Premier League.
West Ham hijacked Crystal Palace’s move for Julio on transfer deadline day, albeit a deal was not in place before the 7pm deadline.
However, a deal sheet was submitted to the Premier League for Igor, meaning West Ham had an additional two hours for iron out the final details.
And that move for Igor has sent shockwaves throughout the division due to the knock-on effect it has had.

West Ham cause Liverpool move for Marc Guehi to collapse
Palace had lined up Igor as a replacement for Liverpool-bound defender Marc Guehi, but it did not quite pan out like that.
As a result of Igor instead wanting to join West Ham, Palace ran out of time to bring in the multiple replacements they were seeking for Guehi.
- Igor Julio joined Brighton from Fiorentina for a fee of around £14.7m
- The defender played 16 times for Brighton in all competitions last season
- He’s also previously played for Red Bull Brasil, Red Bull Salzburg and SPAL among others
Due to the nature of the collapse, reporter Rob Dorsett – speaking live on Sky Sports News (1 September, 8:01pm) – claimed it was an unprecedented situation.
“By the way, that deal is also not done yet [for Igor to West Ham],” Dorsett said after explaining the situation involving Guehi and Liverpool.
“West Ham have themselves submitted a deal sheet to give them extra time to get the Igor transfer over the line.
“So it’s an horrific situation we’ve never seen before in the history of all the transfer windows.”

What must West Ham do to get Igor Julio transfer over the line?
The important news is that West Ham filed a deal sheet to the Premier League in time.
It means that Igor must now complete his West Ham medical and put pen to paper on his contract at the London Stadium.
West Ham only have until 9pm to do all that, so it is very much a race against time now.
If the deal is indeed completed, as everyone will be hoping is the case, it will be a welcome piece of transfer news to conclude a rather dramatic window.
