West Ham ‘confident’ of sealing deal for Hermansen after latest update

West Ham are attempting to push a deal for Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen over the line.

The Hammers are keen to sign a new number one this summer, with Alphonse Areola failing to impress last season.

Graham Potter has also lost the option of Lukasz Fabianski, who departed the club following the end of his contract despite making 14 Premier League appearances last season.

West Ham’s desire for a goalkeeper has only been incentivised in pre-season, after two Areola mistakes led to Manchester United goals in the first game of the Hammers’ United States tour.

West Ham confident of sealing Hermansen agreement

Hermansen often impressed for Leicester last season, despite the Foxes’ failure to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

One particular highlight came early in the season, when Steve Cooper’s side travelled to The Emirates to take on Arsenal.

Hermansen was faced with 16 shots on target, saving 12 of them and impressing both Leicester and Arsenal fans in the process.

But in a story that could be said for the rest of the season, the Dane could only do so much when left to defend Leicester’s goal almost single-handedly.

The 25-year-old has done enough to attract interest from the Premier League, however, and West Ham are hoping to seal a deal for the shot-stopper.

According to West Ham insider ExWHUEmployee (31 July), the Hammers are now becoming confident of striking a deal to sign Hermansen, with an agreement edging closer.

Transfer chiefs at The London Stadium are also interested in Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, with talks also continuing with Serie A side Parma, but the Hermansen deal appears easier to complete.

Time running out for West Ham

A move for Hermansen would provide fresh confidence within the West Ham fanbase, but it must arrive quickly.

Just over two weeks remain before the Premier League returns and the Hammers have made just three signings so far, despite selling Mohammed Kudus for £55million.

With a new striker among several positions of need for West Ham ahead of the new season, decision-makers at The London Stadium must increase their urgency, or risk leaving Potter high and dry.
