West Ham attacker walks out as new contract rejected at London Stadium

Favour Fawunmi has rejected the offer of a new contract at West Ham and left the London Stadium, according to The Standard.

The news outlet reported (1 February) that upon the expiry of his contract on Friday (31 January), the 18-year-old turned down a new one-and-a-half-year deal and is now a free agent.

The winger is of interest to Greek side PAOK and has been offered a three-year contract which would allow him to join their first team in summer pre-season training.

After suffering an injury last season, the youngster signed a short-term contract with the Irons in the summer which kept him in East London until the end of January.

Although the Hammers were offering to keep him for longer, the winger has decided it is in his best interests to move on and after a time out with injury, it’s understandable that he is looking for a move.

If the 18-year-old goes to PAOK, it is said he will spend the remainder of the campaign with the second team before being allowed to step up which will serve as a great motivation.

Although new boss Graham Potter has shown he has no problem with using the younger members of his squad, at a young age and lacking minutes, Fawunmi was probably aware that his opportunities at the London Stadium were likely a while away.

Therefore, it makes sense for him to seek new opportunities and he will no doubt be wished well by the Hammers on his way.
