Vladimir Coufal decides next move after West Ham exit announcement

Vladimir Coufal will depart West Ham once his contract expires at the end of June, after five years in East London.

Coufal was a popular figure at West Ham, having joined from Slavia Prague in 2020, and was a vital part of the side which won the Europa Conference League.

The veteran right-back still featured this season, but fell down the pecking order behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka and missed out on a new contract.

However, Coufal could remain in the Premier League, and has now opened up about his next possible move.

Coufal wants to remain in Premier League

Coufal may have a lot of interest in him as a free agent, but it now appears that he wants to remain in the Premier League.

Speaking to Czech outlet DNES Prague (4 June), Coufal claimed that although he is open to a move to Spain, remaining in England would be his perfect next step.

“There are preferences; it would be ideal to stay in England, but there are other options. I would like Spain, where it’s warm,” Coufal stated.

Coufal could have joined London rivals Fulham in January, but West Ham blocked the move, and he has now spoken about this failed transfer.

“That’s part of football. They said they wouldn’t let me leave, and I’ve already moved on,” Coufal claimed.

Everton could sign Coufal

It was David Moyes who brought Coufal to England, and the former West Ham boss could now link up with the right-back again.

Everton are in the market for a right-back following the departure of Ashley Young, and Coufal could be the perfect experienced head to join their back four.

West Ham shifting to a back three meant there was less need for Coufal, and the 32-year-old has left as a cult hero among the fans.

If he does move to a Premier League rival, there will still be no ill feeling towards Coufal, given that it was the Irons’ decision to let him leave.

Coufal may have been open to a new contract at the London Stadium, but West Ham have moved on as they need to lower the average age of their squad, and he was one of several players to depart.

A new era is starting at the London Stadium.
