Tony Cottee furious as Freddie Potts edges closer to West Ham exit

West Ham United icon Tony Cottee isn't having the impending sale of Freddie Potts.

The Hammers are yet to bring any fresh faces to the London Stadium at this stage of the window.

That is despite a large number of exits that have consumed the London Stadium all window.

Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville are the big two-name departures, but are yet to be replaced.

The Irons faithful have been expecting some incomings after a long wait.

Instead, Potts looks set to add to the departure list in a move that hasn't impressed Cottee.

There was an expectation that relegation from the Premier League could be a perfect chance for change in E20.

Many believed the likes of Potts, Ezra Mayers and George Earthy would be given a chance as first-team regulars.

That doesn't look particularly likely given the ex-Portsmouth loanee is preparing to leave.

The 22-year-old looks set to seal a surprise move to Club Brugge in the coming days.

That has angered Cottee who revealed his surprise to talkSPORT on Monday.

He said: "I don't get it, Freddie Potts. I might be a bit bias because I played with his dad and want to see the academy players, but I don't get it. £10million to Brugge?

"When he played in the Championship, he was Player of the Year for Portsmouth. We're getting rid of a young academy player, it doesn't make sense for me. You've got to keep your good academy boys."

That sums up the feeling of the London Stadium faithful in what is becoming a frustrating window.

When could Potts seal West Ham exit?

Despite the anger of Cottee and a vast majority of fans in claret and blue, this deal looks set to go through.

Club Brugge are pushing to get the deal done with several reports suggesting that a £10m move has been agreed for Potts, as covered by West Ham Zone.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported on Sunday that the midfielder was expected to arrive with the Blue-Black on Monday.

He will then undergo medical tests with the Pro League outfit ahead of his move to Jan Breydel Stadium.

That could see the move be confirmed within days as the Hammers look set to land themselves a controversial £10m.
